Weight loss is more than willpower

A Different Kind of Weight-Loss Practice

Weight management is not simply a matter of eating less or exercising more.

Body weight can be influenced by appetite regulation, insulin resistance, sleep, medications, medical conditions, genetics, lifestyle, age, and other metabolic factors.

That is why Roxborough Metabolic starts with medicine.

We take the time to understand your health history, previous weight-loss efforts, current medications, metabolic risk factors, laboratory findings when indicated, and the obstacles that may be standing between you and meaningful progress.

Then we build a treatment plan around you.

No crash diets. No one-size-fits-all protocols. No automatic prescription simply because you asked for a GLP-1.
The Roxborough Approach

More Than a Prescription

Medication can be an important tool. It should not be the entire program.

Your care may include:

A person preparing a healthy breakfast
01

Comprehensive Medical Evaluation

We review your weight history, health conditions, medications, previous treatments, family history, lifestyle, goals, and risk factors.

02

Metabolic Assessment

When clinically appropriate, laboratory testing can help evaluate glucose regulation, cholesterol, thyroid function, liver and kidney health, vitamin deficiencies, and other factors relevant to treatment.

03

Personalized Treatment Strategy

Your plan is based on your medical needs—not a prebuilt package assigned to every patient.

04

Anti-Obesity Medication

For patients who are appropriate candidates, treatment may include FDA-approved prescription medications for chronic weight management, including GLP-1 or GIP/GLP-1 therapies.

05

Nutrition & Lifestyle Strategy

We focus on realistic changes that support fat loss while protecting muscle, nutrition, energy, and long-term health.

06

Ongoing Physician Follow-Up

Treatment is monitored and adjusted based on response, tolerability, laboratory findings when needed, medical conditions, and your goals.

GLP-1 Treatment—With Real Medical Oversight

GLP-1 medications have changed the treatment of obesity and overweight for many patients.

But these medications are still prescription therapies—not cosmetic treatments.

We don't start with:
“Which injection do you want?”
We start with:
“What is the right medical strategy for you?”

At Roxborough Metabolic, medication begins with a medical evaluation to determine whether treatment is appropriate for you. Throughout treatment, we monitor your progress, side effects, medication response, nutritional needs, and other health considerations.

What We Treat

Weight Is Only One Number

Our approach considers the broader metabolic picture.

Patients may seek care for:

Obesity

Overweight with weight-related health risks

Insulin resistance

Prediabetes

Abnormal cholesterol or triglycerides

Weight regain

Difficulty maintaining previous weight loss

Medication-associated weight gain

Metabolic health concerns

Weight management during midlife

Long-term weight maintenance

Not every patient needs medication, and not every patient needs the same treatment.
That is the point.
Program Process

How It Works

01

Start With a Medical Consultation

We discuss where you are now, what you have tried before, your medical history, your goals, and what may be contributing to your weight.

02

Build Your Treatment Plan

Dr. Roxborough determines an appropriate strategy, including laboratory evaluation, nutrition and activity recommendations, treatment of relevant medical issues, and medication when indicated.

03

Follow Your Progress

Weight management is dynamic. Follow-up allows us to evaluate progress, manage side effects, adjust treatment, and address barriers along the way.

04

Think Beyond the Scale

Losing weight matters. So do blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, strength, energy, sleep, mobility, and your ability to maintain your progress.

About Dr. Roxborough

Meet John Roxborough IV, MD

Dr. John Roxborough IV is a board-certified family medicine physician whose approach to weight management is grounded in the broader context of a patient's health.

Rather than treating body weight as an isolated problem, he evaluates the metabolic and medical conditions that frequently accompany it and develops individualized treatment plans based on each patient's history, risk factors, goals, and response to therapy.

Dr. Roxborough is pursuing advanced education in obesity medicine and preparation for the American Board of Obesity Medicine certification examination, including Harvard Medical School continuing education in obesity medicine and its Obesity Medicine Board Review.

This additional training complements his background in family medicine and his experience managing many of the conditions closely connected with metabolic health.

Treat the patient—not just the number on the scale.
Why Roxborough Metabolic

Medicine First.

There are more ways than ever to obtain weight-loss medication. Access alone is not the same as medical care.

Roxborough Metabolic was created for patients who want their weight treated as part of their health—not as an isolated online transaction.

Physician-Led

Your treatment is directed by a physician.

Individualized

Treatment recommendations are based on your medical profile and response—not an automated protocol.

Comprehensive

We look beyond medication to metabolic risk, nutrition, health conditions, and long-term maintenance.

Evidence-Based

Treatment decisions are grounded in established medical evidence and current standards of care.

Long-Term

Our goal is not simply helping you lose weight. It is helping you develop a medically appropriate strategy for maintaining better health over time.

Who May Be a Candidate?

Is Medical Weight Management Right for You?

You may benefit from an evaluation if:

You have repeatedly lost and regained weight.
Diet and exercise alone have not produced the results you need.
You have obesity or overweight accompanied by weight-related medical risks.
You are interested in GLP-1 medication but want physician oversight.
You have metabolic concerns such as prediabetes, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, or elevated triglycerides.
You have used weight-loss medication before and need a more comprehensive long-term strategy.
You want your treatment to consider your overall medical health—not simply your BMI.

A consultation is the best way to determine whether the program and available treatments are appropriate for you.

Metabolic Health

The Goal Isn't Just a Smaller Number.

Successful weight management can be about much more than appearance.

Your treatment goals should reflect what matters medically to you.

Blood pressure
Cholesterol and triglycerides

Energy and physical function
